A CHAKRA MEDITATION

This meditation focuses on balancing the chakras (energy centers). We are going to work with the 7 major chakras, and extend to the twelve. These chakras are in the front and the back of your body and work together.

The 8th through 12th chakras extend and expand from our physical body, beyond our atmosphere on Earth, farther into our solar system, then into other galaxies. In essence, we are all things, there is no separation.

These energy centers often have colors assigned to them, but depending upon your culture, your belief system or your particular, personal energy the colors may vary. In this exercise I am only giving you one way of seeing colors for each chakra.

This exercise takes approximately 30-45 minutes, depending how long you wish to focus on each chakra and your level of comfort.

It is my belief that meditations are not forced, not something that requires great effort, but something you do for yourself out of love, joy, desire to know more about yourself and participate more consciously in your own growth.

This meditation is a guide, a tool for you. And, by all means, should your inner/higher self whisper it’s own guidance to you during this meditation, please follow it as it knows best what you may need. There is no right or wrong way to do this meditation and you will not be judged however you do it. Meditations often take practice to build up to longer periods of time. People just beginning meditation practices often feel that they are getting no where, not seeing anything or feeling that they missed out on some part of it. I encourage you to try it while having NO expectations or demands upon yourself; do it for you, for fun. Be open to receiving whatever and however something may come to you.

You may record this meditation and play it back for yourself, have someone read it to you as you do the exercise, or go step by step yourself. You may wish to play your favorite soft, soothing music in the background as you do this meditation. I suggest having some drinking water handy. Water is a great purifier and conductor of energy and vital for our health and life force.

Begin by sitting in your favorite asana, chair or cushion. If not in an asana, do not cross your legs. Sit up straight but comfortable and relaxed.

Take a deep cleansing breath, and then another and another. Feel your body relaxing deeper and letting go of all stress and worries with each breath. Let yourself feel how you are seated, the clothing you are wearing and how that feels. Feel your chair or sofa under you. Let your feet feel the floor. Feel your arms relaxing in your lap or along your sides. Feel completely present with yourself, enjoying your aliveness and relaxed state of being.

Now, feel your focus going into the center of your body, to your heart, your feeling center. And in whichever way you best feel energies, feel, visualize, a small flame of light in this region.

Using your feelings or memories feel yourself, someone, or something that you love more than anyone or anything else. Feel this love grow inside your center. See/feel this as a little flame, a light slowly expanding, with each breath you take, until it fills your entire being with its light and love. Each breath you take brings you more relaxation, centeredness, peace, love, light, oneness with your inner God self.

You deserve to receive this love. You are love and loved just as you are.

Shift your focus to your FIRST chakra located in your sacral area, basically what you are seated on. This is the region connected with your core identity, who you are and how you survive. This area is generally RED in color. This area has a lot to do with your tribal roots, thoughts, your ability to TAKE ACTION, VITALITY. It rules the nervous systems, spinal column, urinary systems and adrenal glands.

Feel this region being filled with RED, or any other color you may feel best suited for this area at this time. See/feel it glowing, bright, healthy, activated. Breathe in the color red. Know you are strengthening your own IDENTITY, TRUST IN YOURSELF. Feel/see this for at least one minute, as your chakra spins faster with this new energy. Then, gradually slow it down to normal spin. Trust your feelings or visualization here. Each person is different and sometimes chakras spin clockwise, or counterclockwise. And they will have different feels, sizes, shapes, colors. Feel what is right for you.

Now, to the SECOND chakra located in the reproductive organ area, below the navel. This chakra is generally ORANGE. Its energies are most associated with primal elements, fear, aggressiveness, anger, lack of trust. It rules emotions and sensuality, sexual organs. This is your area of CREATIVITY and SEXUALITY.

Feel this chakra begin to spin faster, breathe in with bright orange light, or any color you feel it needs now, spinning faster, and hold this focus for at least one minute, allowing you to receive more of your creative energies, trust in them and in your sexuality. FEELING TRUST IN YOURSELF, LETTING GO OF FEAR THAT STANDS IN YOUR WAY. Then, gradually slow it down to its normal spin. And breathe.

THIRD chakra located just above the navel, in the solar plexus region. This chakra helps you FEEL your way through life with your WILL, POWER, FEELINGS. This chakra gives you your perception of others’ energies. It also acts as a filter to defend against energies, helps one adjust to places, people, situations. This chakra can adjust to suit whatever environment it is in; it regulates energy. This is the center chakra so it receives energy and filters it through to the other chakras. This chakra also works with the digestive system, pancreas, solar plexus, circulation, autonomic nervous system.

Feel this third chakra expanding, breathing in and glowing a bright YELLOW, spinning faster. Feeling more self-empowerment, truly knowing and trusting in yourself and your divine connection which never leaves you. Hold this focus for at least one minute. Then, gradually slow it down to its normal spin. Breathe.

FOURTH chakra the HEART. Center of your chest. This area is your heart center, feelings of unconditional love, blood circulation, heart and thymus gland. The color most associated with this chakra is GREEN, but sometimes PINK. This area is your connection with compassion and all of life.

Feel your heart chakra spinning faster, expanding, breathing in a glowing a bright green or pink. Opening up so you can receive and transmit more love and compassion. Hold this focus for at least one minute. Then, gradually slow it down to its normal spin. Breathe.

FIFTH chakra the throat area, really the little indentation at the front base of your neck, where your thyroid gland is situated. This area is responsible for your ability to express yourself, spontaneously, your creativity, your voice, feelings. It is the vocal chords, thyroid gland, throat, breathing passageways. The color is BLUE. In Earth, this chakra is located at Mt. Shasta. Imagine this chakra glowing bright blue, breathe blue into the chakra. Feel it spinning faster, expanding and filling with more energy that enables you to SPEAK YOUR TRUTH, EXPRESS YOURSELF. Hold this focus for at least one minute. Then, gradually slow the spin down to normal.

Now feel your SIXTH chakra - third eye (center of forehead) gently opening you towards more INTUITION, INNER VISION. This area has to do with your thinking processes, PITUITARY GLAND, LEFT EYE, EARS, NOSE, MOTOR ABILITIES. Visualize this third eye INDIGO (a blue/violet color), or whatever color you feel it needs right now.

Feel it spin faster, glowing brighter, breathing in the color into the chakra, giving you sharper thinking skills, more intuitive abilities. Enabling you to focus on the future you wish to create for yourself. See it unfolding for you. Hold this focus for at least one minute. Then, gradually slow the spin down to normal. Take a deep, cleansing breath.

Your SEVENTH chakra the top, center of your head. This region is your SPIRITUALITY center, universal energies, spiritual mind and body. RIGHT EYE, PINEAL GLAND, HIGHER MENTAL ACTIVITY, ELECTRICAL. In the Earth this is found in Mt. Fujiama, Japan. Visualize this chakra PURPLE, breathing in and filling with purple light, glowing brightly, expanding and spinning faster and faster. Feeling more and more a connection with higher spiritual energies filling you with love and wisdom. Hold this focus for at least a minute. Then, gradually slow down to normal.

Above the seventh chakra is your more expanded universal self. The color for this chakra is golden/white, and it extends and continues into your twelfth chakra, which extends outward indefinitely. This is where you connect with all life in the cosmos, where you know you are part of all of it. Feel your energy field grow and reach out as a bright light as you breathe. Then relax.

Now, beginning with your first chakra, move up your chakras one by one and connect all of them together, as they ALL expand and spin faster and faster in their respective colors becoming a rainbow of color and energy. Remember to breathe.

Go with your feelings during this time. Feel this focus for at least a minute, then slow them down and let the chakras get back to normal spin. Feel all your chakras in balance, operating to their maximum abilities, healthy and harmonious.

You may take however long you like, at this time, to remain in this relaxed state and just receive, connect with whatever you wish to connect with. You may do this by allowing energies to blend with yours, or to receive telepathic messages knowing you are in a place of safety and love. Allowing yourself to be a clear channel for the source to come through you. You may ask questions or merely bask in this wonderful feeling. Breathe. Or, you may decide to gradually shift your focus back to your body, mind, and place where you sit.

When you feel ready to come out of your meditative state, begin to feel your feet on the ground. Feel your body and what you are seated on. As you count yourself back from five to one, with each decreasing number you are back more fully aware of yourself, your surroundings and begin to move your hands, arms, legs, feet, head.

Open your eyes and look around you, letting your eyes start to focus near and far. Touch what is on or around you; getting back in touch with physical self here and now. Breathe and feel your connection with the earth, feeling fully grounded and centered. When you feel fully present and centered, you may get up and walk around.

Here are some suggestions for retaining more of the benefits following your meditation:
drink some water
take a shower, swim, or go for an easy walk
eat something to help ground you
go outside and feel the Earth, touch flowers,
hug a tree, see the sky, the sun, sit on the ground,
interact with animals or go out and share your lightness of being
with whomever you meet.
