Update: October 8, 2005:
When I posted the article you will read below, I had hoped that people would pay attention to the extreme need to revamp the buildings and building codes as well as emergency response and supplies in every country to withstand strong earthquakes. But, that hasn't happened in India or Pakistan or in many other nations. The quake that happened early today in that region has taken, sadly, many thousands of lives and left buildings as rubble. Wake up people. Pay attention! The earth is going through many changes and we must keep up with them.

***********************************************************************************

Wherever and whenever there is a natural disaster we wonder why it happened: why in that place, at that time, to these particular people, or why to us? Why does anyone deserve to go through that devastation, that loss of life, that horror? Do children ask to be orphans? Do parents ask for the deaths of their children? Do people ask for destruction, poverty, famine, injury? Does anyone ask to die in that catastrophe? No, of course not. No one consciously asks for these things to happen. But - wait a second - we read, or know, that we co-create our reality. Does that mean this earthquake was co-created? How do we make some sense out of this?

I also ask my guidance the whys. I know there is no simple answer. The response I always receive explains it from a larger perspective - from the consciousness of the land, the group, the belief systems, and their desires. Watching the news coverage of the quake relief efforts in India this past week, I asked what was the spiritual meaning of this quake. In came an immediate answer, from my essence (Ha'Orah), White Buffalo Woman, and from Dr. Peebles, who never feel that anyone is a victim, but always a creator. The following is a compilation of our in-put. As always, this is a sharing from our perspectives and we are aware that there are also many other views - please use your own discretion.

As some of you may already know, quakes occur because 1) the earth is always going through changes, and 2) there is a co-creation with people and the earth to bring change, to shake up the old to bring in the new. The quake can be gentle or deadly depending upon how much change and shaking up is needed, and this is influenced by the belief system of the society in which it happens. For example, the past few larger quakes experienced in Los Angeles were not so deadly as a quake of similar magnitude in Turkey, or Central America, or elsewhere. One reason for this has to do with the consciousness and beliefs regarding the earth and change held by the people. Another reason has to do with the building structures and construction methods, which again is tied into a people's connection with the earth. If a city or country is more aware of there being a co-creation between people and the earth there is less fear and separation, and more harmony. There are more efforts to create a smoother transition, more people working on making it so by listening to, and respecting, the earth and one's people.

One way of listening is to know the signs of a coming quake and to be as well-prepared as possible by having safer buildings, supplies on hand, an emergency plan, etc. Oh yes, people balk at us in Los Angeles. They laugh when we say there is such a thing as "earthquake weather," or when others say people in the City of the Angels are spiritual flakes, but we know there IS such a thing as "earthquake weather" and what it feels like, therefore we're not surprised when we feel a quake coming and then it happens. When we get those first inklings of a coming quake, we do our inner and outer work. Our big Northridge quake was our own shake up/wake up call, and boy did we learn from that one to be more in-tuned to the earth! Since then, (and even prior to that we had done some work to alleviate building pressure and to create quakes off-shore rather than inland), we have lightworkers working overtime with the earth to help bring change in a way that is easy, with as little destruction as possible. Living where we do we always have to be on our toes. Sometimes we may slough off - but it's not worth it because then we have to pay the consequences. [Update: February 10 - this past week there was a quake near Palm Springs, California, and it was moderate and not destructive. Note the name of the city nearest to the epicenter - INDIO. Metaphysicians note things like this - we look for them in order to be prepared.]

White Buffalo Woman adds:
Now we get to the fun part: What is inner and outer work? Inner work has to do with looking at your personal lives and where you resist change, especially when you really do need a change. Why do you fear change and does change have to come as a terrible experience, or as a more elegant one? What is your personal relationship with the earth and how much do you pay attention to her, value her, allow HER to change as she needs to? Outer work has to do with your society's consciousness. Where are you going and what do you wish to co-create together? Do you have to create tragedies in order to unify, or can you create joyful events in which to unify and celebrate? Can you go through earth changes WITH the earth, or will you go through changes against her, hating her, and blaming her for it? Working with her will be the path of least resistence.

Ha'Orah offers the following:
How can you be more in touch with what the earth is going through? By being in touch with the earth, her feelings, rhythms, and your own feelings. Your own feelings are often triggered by what is happening within the earth. The earth responds to your emotions, too. Let's say you feel a sudden build up of frustration, pent up feelings and no outlet? Everyone is on edge - you feel it all around you. Where does that come from? How will that pressure be released and will anyone have to suffer when it gets released? Can you find safer and healthier ways in which to release it within yourselves so it doesn't have to come out as a huge explosion or tornado, kicking, beating, flooding everything and everybody around you? Aha - getting the picture?

The weather and earth changes and what you feel are all connected. When you sense a general shift in the atmosphere - within you and around you - pay attention. Something is going on. You all have the opportunity to choose how you will respond to that energy. Will you build on it and create more of the same like an intense vortex of violent energy? Or will you feel compassion for it and allow it to move through you with understanding as you move with it and not fight it? Work WITH it. Find a positive way to release it, whether it be in a visualization, in talking about it, in energy work, however you feel drawn to moving it through. You are very powerful creators and truly can make a difference.

Now back to India. Why did this happen there? You have noticed that there have been huge quakes in many places the "western world" considers "third world nations." These are places where the building codes are sorely lacking. Water, power, housing are not created with respect to caring for people's welfare. There is no real emergency plan for a large quake. There has been some ignorance, separation, and some denial. The earth will continue to have large quakes so basic necessities must be improved. Life must be, and will be, honored much more.

Dr. Peebles gives us his perspective of the quake:
The consciousness in India plays a big role in this recent quake. Change is needed and requested; not just the basic necessities, but bigger changes. Changes in finances and in the economy, in India's place in the world. Changes in consciousness to become more part of the world instead of isolated, or behind the times. Changes in consciousness from a people strong in spiritual belief but also needing a balance between the spiritual and the material worlds; finding a new understanding what it means to suffer for God or celebrate God. Change for balancing the male and female in society, while respecting both. From poverty to abundance in all ways. From a refusal to fight to being determined to fight for a new and better life. A desire many have to emerge from old beliefs while respecting the rich heritage that brought the world so much. A desire to see the that world DOES very much care about beautiful India and will help it through its changes. A desire to know that one's own people very much care.

The huge population in India was taken for granted. Monsoons, quakes, wars, famines, flooding, disease and pollution alleviated some of the burden of over-population and overuse and destruction of natural resources. But now more people will no longer take one another, or the earth, for granted. It's not about the quantity, but rather about the quality of life that is coming into focus. A people who felt there was little hope of finding a way out of their poverty have spiritually, physically and materially shaken themselves loose and demanded a radical change. The earth working with the people, and vice-versa, (in their own way and timing) for change.

We know that those left behind are in shock and pain. Some have lost all family members and every possession they've ever had. We are doing what we can to help them through this difficult adjustment - a loving touch on their shoulders, whispers of support. Everyone played a part in this event in India and continues to be involved whether on this side of the veil or another. We, over here, (including my good friends Ha'Orah and White Buffalo Woman), honor all, and no one has gone unvalued or unappreciated for their part in caring so much to make a loud communique for change, and desire to take a new responsibility to create a desired future - one in which all life is seen as precious. And this goes for the entire world, not just India. In this way, it has brought the world closer together through courage, exposure, compassion, (loving allowance), communication and responsibility, and INTIMACY, knowing that no one ever really dies, and that NO ONE IS EVER ALONE. No small feat. A big lesson learned. And we encourage you to embrace it along with India and help however you can, for you are helping yourselves. We hope you will see it for the gift it is and we hope we have offered you some new insights and tools for understanding and implementing co-creation. God bless you, each and every one.

AFTERMATH:

March 21, 2001: Today I was reminded of this article on the Indian quake by a friend and it prompted me to re-read it. The messages from my guides on the reasons for the quake - need for change - hit home even more today in light of last week's exposure of corrupt politics in India. Seems there is still a lot of shaking going on! Then, my higher self whispered to me, "Think about that word you just typed - CORRUPTION! CO-RUPTION!" Rupture, eruption! Quakes! A cooperative event! WOW! Talk about an enlightening moment! Thanks, Ha'Orah!
